FALLOUT 76: INSIDE THE VAULT – NEW UPDATE AND TREASURE HUNTER EVENT INCOMING (Re-Print From Bethesda)

Welcome back to Inside the Vault! In this week’s article, you’ll find a few details about our next update for Fallout 76. We’re also sharing improvements we’ve made for the “Hunt for the Treasure Hunter” event ahead of its return next Thursday. Finally, you can catch some highlights from C.A.M.P. Shelters playtesting in the Public Test Server.

NEW UPDATE NEXT WEEK

Next Tuesday, October 13, we’re planning to release a new update that will address a number of bugs, including several community-reported issues, bring festive new items to the Atomic Shop, and lay some behind-the-scenes groundwork for our Steel Dawn Update, which is currently slated for later this year. Next week’s patch will be smaller than some of our previous releases in 2020. However, we still have our heads down, working full-steam-ahead on new story quests, features (like C.A.M.P. Shelters), adjustments for Hunger and Thirst mechanics, and a variety of other improvements that are coming with the Steel Dawn Update.

We can’t wait to get Steel Dawn into your hands, and we’ll have more information to share on the new content as we get closer to that update. In the meantime, those of you who own Fallout 76 on PC through Bethesda.net can join us in playtesting Shelters right now in the Public Test Server (PTS), and share your feedback in the PTS forum. We’ll see you on Tuesday for our next update.

TREASURE HUNTERS RETURN TO APPALACHIA

Treasure Hunter Mole Miners have made themselves scarce since they first appeared in the Ash Heap earlier this year. However, we’ve detected recent increases in Mole Miner activity, and we currently believe the Treasure Hunters will soon breach the surface once again to begin scouring the land for riches—this time, throughout the entire Wasteland!

That’s right, the “Hunt for the Treasure Hunter” event is returning next Thursday, October 15. We’ve made a number of improvements based on feedback that the community shared with us last time, and we’re excited to see what you think:

  • Treasure Hunter Mole Miners now spawn in all regions of Appalachia, and their levels adjust dynamically up to 50. As a result, they will drop legendary loot that better matches your character’s level.
  • Speaking of loot, we’ve separated Treasure Hunter event rewards into their own reward pool and added a number of new items that you can’t get anywhere else.
  • Additionally, Treasure Hunter Mole Miners have an increased chance to drop Ornate Mole Miner Pails. Players also have higher chances to get event-exclusive rewards from lower-quality Pails.
  • Finally, we’ve spoken with Vendors to negotiate significantly lower Cap prices on components for player-crafted Mole Miner Pails.

We’re still unsure what schemes the Treasure Hunter Mole Miners are cooking up for all of the loot they’re collecting, but we’d rather not find out. We hope you’ll join in reclaiming those riches for yourself and your fellow Dwellers. Here are the start and end times for the event:

BUILD WITH US IN THE PTS

76 Banner Shelters 750x300

Late last week, we kicked off our latest round of PTS playtesting with our upcoming C.A.M.P. Shelters feature. Frankly, we’ve been blown away by the community’s participation so far. We’re actively reading through all of your feedback, discussions, and bug reports, and we really appreciate everything you’ve been sharing with us in the PTS forum. While we remain focused on Shelters in the PTS right now, we do plan to bring further improvements and Steel Dawn content to the PTS in the coming weeks. As mentioned above, if you are interested in Shelters playtesting and you own a PC copy of the game via Bethesda.net, then we hope you’ll join the PTS and build something fantastic!

As we mentioned last week, there’s a new PTS Pennant reward up for grabs that you can unlock for your C.A.M.P. in the live game by taking part in Shelters playtesting. Get your Pennant by building in Shelters on at least three (3) different days, and by using 75% or more of a Shelter’s build budget before the PTS concludes. We’ll add the Pennant to your account shortly after we release the Steel Dawn Update.

In addition to feedback, PTS players have been posting plenty of screenshots of their awesome Shelter creations, and we’ve collected a handful of submissions to share with you here. If you’d like to check out some of the other imaginative builds players came up with last weekend, be sure to visit our C.A.M.P. Shelters Screenshots thread or follow @Fallout on Twitter.

New Feature – C.A.M.P. Shelters (Re-Print From Bethesda PTS)

Thank you for joining us to play test C.A.M.P. Shelters in the PTS! Below, you’ll find additional details about Shelters so that you can access them in-game, as well as a few guidelines about what we’re looking to test.

Shelters Play Test Focus

One of our main goals for this phase of PTS testing is to stress our systems by having lots of players build in their Shelters at once. Here are a few things you can do that will help:

  • Feedback – Since Shelters are our current top priority for the PTS, we would greatly appreciate if you could please keep your feedback and bug reports focused on Shelters for now.
  • Build and Rebuild – Deck out your Shelters as much as possible this weekend (Oct 1 – 4), as we’re prioritizing performance testing at first in the PTS. Having as many players as possible building in Shelters at the same time will help us analyze performance data and make improvements.
  • Utilize Lots of Budget – As mentioned below, each Shelter has its own budget. We’d love to see all of your Shelters filled to the brim with CAMP objects, and consuming as much budget as possible.

Shelters Details

As mentioned in this Inside the Vault article, C.A.M.P. Shelters are instanced, underground interiors that you can add to your C.A.M.P. and build in to make them your own.

  • We will be launching with three different types of Shelters initially, and each has its own size, layout, and style. All three of the following Shelters will be available to you in the PTS:
    • Vault Utility Room
    • Vault Lobby
    • Vault Atrium
  • You can access a Shelter by building the associated Shelter Entrance in your C.A.M.P.
    • Find Shelter Entrances by scrolling all the way to the right of your C.A.M.P. build menu to the new “Shelters” category. Then, select the type of Entrance you’d like to place, and head inside!
    • You can have one of each type of Shelter in your C.A.M.P., and you can build multiple Entrances to the same Shelter.
  • Each Shelter has its own build budget that is separate from your main C.A.M.P., as well as your any other Shelters you’ve built.
    • Since they are instanced, Shelters can offer a larger budget than your main C.A.M.P. Currently, each of our first three Shelters offers a budget that’s 50% bigger than your C.A.M.P. budget.
    • We’ve removed material costs in the PTS so that you can build in your Shelters to your heart’s content.
  • Additional Shelter details
    • Allies cannot enter Shelters, so you be unable to place Ally Objects within.
    • Player Vending Machines also cannot be built inside Shelters.
    • PVP is possible inside of Shelters. If you’d like to avoid any potential aggressors, please make sure Pacifist Mode is turned on in your settings menu.
    • Your Shelter interiors will be saved as you build, so you won’t lose anything even if your Shelter Entrances get destroyed, or if you decide to move them.

Please share your feedback and bug reports with us as posts in the PTS Forum as you play test Shelters, so that we can get a head start on improvements and fixes prior to releasing the Steel Dawn Update later this year.

Thank you very much!
